Making sure your child gets off at the right stop

Children aged 7-12 can travel alone on selected InterCity bus services. We have an Unaccompanied Minor policy in place to keep them safe and make sure their journey goes smoothly.

Our drivers will do their best to alert unaccompanied minors when their stop is coming up. However, due to the busy nature of their jobs we cannot guarantee that they will immediately notice if too many or too few passengers get off at a particular stop. For this reason your child needs to be aware of their stop:

  • Listen to the driver’s announcements
  • Watch for visual cues and landmarks
  • Be aware of multiple stops within a city (for example, we stop at Papakura and Manukau on our way north to Auckland Central)
  • Ask the driver if they are unsure

IMPORTANT: A parent or guardian MUST be waiting to meet your child when the bus arrives as drivers cannot wait with them. Make sure they know the service number, arrival time and where to go. If the driver is aware that an unaccompanied minor has not been collected, they will notify our operations team who will call the police to come and collect your child.

Here are some of our most common stops used by unaccompanied minors and younger travellers. We’ve shown the location info and a Google Maps link for each, along with handy tips on how to recognise it, where to park and what amenities are available there.
