About Kerikeri

Kerikeri is the largest town in Northland and a popular tourist destination located around three hours drive from Auckland.  The town is referred to as the “Cradle of the Nation”, due to Kerikeri being the first site of the mission station.

The town has some of the most historic buildings in the country. The Mission House is the oldest wooden structure still standing in New Zealand and is administered by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. A stone cottage built in 1840 is now a historic ruins site, which once belonged to a stonemason, John Edmonds, and his family. 

Kerikeri Basin features a renowned Maori site, Kororipo Pa. Rewa's Village is located here which is a replica of a Maori Pa (Maori Village), giving visitors an insight into Maori life before the arrival of European settlers. 

Things to do in Kerikeri include wine tours, visiting the Stone Store and Mission House, and walking on one of the many nature trails in the area, including the beautiful Rainbow Falls.
