Half-day foodie experience in the wonderful Wairarapa. Enjoy a guided tour of some of the best foodie stops in the Wairarapa region including locally made cheese, chocolate and wine.
All round a great day out- excellent weather, knowledgable host, superb scenery and great variety of foodie stops!
Phil was a great host/driver and very knowledgable about the surrounding area. The places we went were great stops for foodies. We did feel that for the price we paid ($150 each), we expected more input from the stops and a bit more of a bespoke experience. E.g. at the cheese shop we were given three samples of cheese and a few crackers which we felt we could have bought ourselves and tried more varieties for a lot less money, but there was no additional information about the cheese-making process or particularly unusual cheeses available to try. It didn't feel much different to just walking off the street for free and taking the cheeses home to try ourselves. At the chocolate shop we also could have just bought lots of different chocolate bars and tried them, and would have gotten a lot of more samples for the money we paid. Again, no offer of interaction with the chocolatiers to see how they make the chocolates, which we expected given the cost of the experience. But the choice of stop was excellent with beautiful chocolates and amazing variety of flavours. The winery was also a lovely stop, but no different to walking in off the street, and because we bought wine, the tasting fees which we had paid for in the booking were waived anyway, unsure if this happened in the other two stops as we also bought produce from the other businesses. The reason we have given our rating is that we felt the experience was a glorified taxi service and the value for money was poor.
Hi Rebekah, Sorry to hear the experience didn't live up to expectations and that you don't feel you got value for your money. I must admit it's not feedback I've ever received about this tour before. Certainly the chocolate tasting was something that walk in customers don't have access to. Similarly with the cheese factory the kitchen and cafe were closed but to the general public but open for us. I appreciate that perhaps more time and access to the people behind the products may have given you more of the value you're after. It's something I'll try and work on in future. I enjoyed your company on tour and I do appreciate the kind words you have left regarding my performance as driver guide. Once again I'm sorry the value for money wasn't there for you in this experience. Phil - Zozo Travel
A great tour. Tour guide was friendly, wineries gave a good amount of tasters, a couple of them had 4-5 wines to try and cheese and chocolate shops were very cute and quality products. Could have been more cheese and chocolate to try/bigger pieces, but was still impressed with the tour.
Thanks for the review Jessica and the lovely feedback about your local driver guide for the day. Glad you had such an enjoyable half day out with us in the wonderful Wairarapa!

Hitting the Martinbourgh trail
This was a very interesting outing. It was a long time since I had been to Martinborough and surrounds but this trip was beyond what I would have found if left to my own devices. Featherstone in particular was a surprise with its amazing cheese shop and fabulous pub dining. The trip around to the lighthouse was something else… an interesting road without even one sign remarking on the obvious ie that the road was narrow and one lane in various spots. The seals were quite a sight and mildly intrigued by tourist attention. The walk to the lighthouse was a challenge and not my scene but I take my hat off to those who gallantly trecked up the steep stairway. The driver was very informative and flexible. This was a very good outing.
