Join a half-day tour of Mount Wellington to explore its stunning nature, rich history, and geology!
Start with a scenic drive from the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre to South Hobart and see Mt. Wellington towering over everybody and the iconic Cascade Brewery building established in 1824. The scenic views continue as the minibus passes through the tall Eucalyptus forests and the town of Ferntree with its green, well-watered, cool temperate gardens occasionally covered in snow, before passing The Springs. Here you will see a quick trailer view of Bruny Island a tiny taste of what is to come.
Reach the Chalet, a rustic dolerite bluestone shelter hut standing at 1000 metres above sea level, and behold the colourful and resilient snow gums, flowering Banksia trees, a waterfall, and views of Hobart. Your local guide, David, will share fascinating stories about the mountain’s plants, geology, and past. As you continue our journey up Mount Wellington, the views of Hobart keep getting better. At the summit, see the breathtaking mountains of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. After a short walk to the trig point, reach the highest spot on the mountain, perfect for taking in the incredible scenery.
Have more time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the panoramic views from the Hobart and Southwest Wilderness viewing platforms. The summit offers a chance to experience the awe-inspiring beauty of Tasmania’s unique alpine landscape, where nature's wonders seem endless.
The tour ends with a relaxing drive back to Hobart letting you cherish unforgettable memories of beautiful Mt. Wellington!
