The day starts with a convenient pick-up from Queenstown then onto Hot Rod for your lesson. We will sort your rentals, pick you up and shuttle you to the most scenic trails in Queenstown, with us taking care of getting you up the hill, you can make the most out of your exhilarating downhill mountain biking lesson.
Enjoy coaching that is infused with attention to detail, tailored to suit your skill level and objective. This includes fundamental skills such as shifting gears using both brakes and body positions - you'll be surprised how well these fundamentals will help you ride one of the best downhill tracks around, plus with shuttle back to the top included, you can make the most what you learn on the downhill.
A breakdown of the skills that you should expect to learn during your coaching lesson:
Gears and Shifting: Learning how to effectively use your bike's gears is crucial for maintaining speed, control, and energy efficiency on different types of terrain. Riders will learn when to shift, how to choose the right gear for the situation, and how to execute smooth gear changes.
Braking Techniques: Proper braking is essential for safety and control. Participants will learn how to modulate their brakes, use both front and rear brakes effectively, and manage speed on descents without skidding or losing control.
Body Positions: Body position plays a significant role in balance and control while riding. Riders will be taught how to use their body weight to maintain balance, navigate obstacles, and control the bike through turns and on rougher terrain.
Trail Etiquette: Understanding trail etiquette and responsible riding practices is important for both safety and preserving the environment. Riders will learn how to share trails with others, yield the right of way, and leave no trace.
Terrain Analysis: Understanding the different types of terrain and how to approach them is essential. Participants will learn how to assess trail conditions, choose the best line, and adapt their riding style to various terrains such as rocky sections, roots, mud, and steeper gradients.
