David said... The guide was excellent but let down by his equipment, fortunately he kept his sense and decorum all day long. Bus from Noosa to rainbow bay while old was ok, then we transferred to the 4x4 bus, the guide said his bus was in for a service, the advertised bus Was an air-conditioned ‘Warrior’ vehicle, what we got was a beaten up Toyota 4x4, most windows did not open if you wanted a photo from inside the van everyone had to move to the opening window (dingo photo) suspension shot, power system on the blink, transmission growly. The adventure started off a the tour did not take into account tide times so the bus had to run the soft sand then it stalled twice. First time it would not restart, we got while our guide went up a sand dune to make a phone call, eventually a 4x4 stopped and offered to pull start the bus, after a few pulls part of the bus pulled off and fired at the 4x4, fortunately no one was injured but it damaged the back of the 4x4 and took out one of its turn lights. Bus started was dug out and off we went, no long after it stalled again this time it restarted but was bogged, digging out by hand everyone one and eventually a group of us pushing to get it up and going. The driver never turned the bus off again for the rest of the day. By now the tide was pushing well up the beach and coming in, the motor growled as we bounced through the soft sand. Losing an hour meant we did not stop for morning tea. While Mackenzie lake was pretty the sky was overcast and the water cold, no one from the tour went in. Lunch in the dingo proof area was pleasant, after lunch we headed to central station and had an enjoyable stroll along the boardwalk, while the bulk if our group took the rainforest walk. We met them at the end of the walk with drinks and nibbles. then the return trip to Noosa. The inland sand roads on Fraser were in poor condition and the ride was bone shattering, no wonder they do not recommend the trip if you have a bad back, The beach trip back was fine with a low tide it was a sand highway and we stopped to see a dingo which was lazing on the beach. A 12 hour day (11 hours if no breakdowns) did not justify McKenzie lake 1hr or the rainforest 40 minute walk. On the positive side we saw a azure kingfisher, a Queensland lungfish and one dingo and crossed Fraser Island off our bucket list. While an interesting day I would not recommend this trip regardless of the provider.
