Embark on a magical adventure into the great outdoors with this scenic walk and cruise set in the beautiful Queen Charlotte Sounds.
Departing from the pretty coastal town of Picton, your journey will begin with a relaxing cruise which will take you along the magnificent Queen Charlotte Sound to Ship Cove.
Explore this beautiful and historic sheltered bay with lush forest backdrop where Captain Cook once resided. Observe the Oyster Catchers and Weka and have a glance at the many information boards about Captain Cook and the Maori History.
At Tawa Saddle you can take time out to relax and marvel at the pristine scenery that surrounds you, glare at the crystal clear sea waters and let lifes troubles wash away with the tide.
On arrival at Furneaux Lodge a warm welcome awaits you, take time to enjoy the lodge facilities before boarding your vessel for your relaxing journey back to Picton. Upon check in the reservations team will confirm the pick up time from the resort with you and provide you with a map.
The water taxi service for the Queen Charlotte track Ship Cove to Furneaux Lodge is a mini cruise itself with great views of the Marlborough Sounds. The schedule for return water taxi is tough though. We took the water taxi at 9am, we reached Ship Cove at 10:15 and started our hike on the Queen Charlotte track at 10:35. The distance is 17 km, and we really needed to hurry. With just a short lunch break of 30 minutes we reached Furneaux Lodge at 3:35, 25 minutes prior to the departure of the water taxi back to Picton. Would prefer if there were a water taxi at 4:30 or 5 pm.
Read that as; there are things to buy. Overall nothing to add, it’s a watertaxi mkay?
